Matt Weber has been named the Assistant Director of Little League’s Southeastern Region, it was announced by Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball. The Little League Southeastern Region Headquarters is located in Warner Robins, Ga.

“During the interview process, Matt exhibited the skills needed to be successful in his position working with our volunteers in the Southeastern Region,” Mr. Keener said. “The addition of his leadership and communication skills to the regional office should help us expand and improve programs while they look to grow participation in both the baseball and softball programs.”

Mr. Weber is a 2010 graduate of Marshall University in his home town of Huntington, W. Va. Having earned his undergraduate degree in Parks and Recreation Management, he is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in independent studies. As part of his academic requirements, Mr. Weber was required to complete an internship, which he did with the College Baseball World Series (CWS) in Omaha, Neb. During his three months with the CWS, Matt coordinated all hospitality events that were not on-field related.

A graduate of Huntington High School, Mr. Weber, 28, served as a full-time graduate assistant with Marshall’s sports information department prior to joining Little League Baseball, Incorporated.

“I’ve been connected to Little League for what seems like by whole life,” Mr. Weber, a graduate of Huntington League 3 Little League, said. “My family is built around Little League. My dad volunteered as a coach and league president, and served as West Virginia District 1 Administrator for many years, my mom was quite involved, and my younger sister is currently a Little League coach.”

In his new position with Little League, Mr. Weber will assist Region Director Jennifer Colvin with the operation of the region headquarters. Some of those duties will include working with leagues throughout the region to enhance operations, developing and implementing training programs and the operation of tournaments, including the annual Southeastern Region Little League Softball Tournament and Little League Baseball Tournaments.

“I am truly honored to have been appointed to this position by such a tremendous organization that I have long-been involved with,” Mr. Weber said. “Being partnered with a great staff in the Southeastern Region and relying on my past experience and desire to learn, I plan to be a productive and successful member of the Little League family.”

The Little League Southeastern Region Headquarters includes Little League Southeast Park Field and batting cages. The Southeastern Region Headquarters serves eight states (West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Florida) and 311,700 Little League players who comprised 20,780 teams in 2012.

“I think Matt’s previous league and district volunteer experience will be a definite asset to his position,” Jennifer Colvin, Little League Southeastern Region Director, said. “He has been involved in many aspects of the program, from umpiring, field maintenance to regional tournament operations, all of which will help in his daily dealings with the volunteers in the Southeast.”
